On paper the Acebeam P20 Mini (AED 489) should be the obvious pick of our mid-range throwers: 4,000 lumens, 1,035 metres, a 6,400 mAh 21700 cell, USB-C on both the light and the battery, a tactical tail switch, IP68. And then you notice that the Acebeam T29 next to it on the shelf costs AED 40 less, makes 1,100 fewer lumens — and throws 365 metres further. That is not a misprint, and understanding why is the whole point of this review. The P20 Mini is a very good light. It is just not the light its biggest number suggests.
The 30-second verdict
Buy the P20 Mini if you want a bright, sustained, mid-range searchlight: a hotspot big enough to sweep a compound, a farm fence line or a recovery site, with a genuine 1,000 lumens held for two and a half hours after the turbo burst, a big cell you can swap in the field, and a tail switch that gives you instant full power for a security or patrol job. At AED 489 it ships free and it is the most complete “duty” package Acebeam makes at this size.
The catch is the word throw. Four thousand lumens is a 90-second turbo, and the 1,035-metre figure belongs to that 90 seconds. More importantly, the P20 Mini’s big SFT-60-W emitter makes a lot of light but spreads it into a wider hotspot, so it reaches less far than the cheaper, dimmer, tighter-beamed T29. If the job is “see what is at the far end of the wadi”, buy the T29 and keep AED 40. If the job is “light up everything between here and 400 metres and keep it lit”, buy the P20 Mini.
Who it’s for — and who should skip it
Buy it if you work security, patrol a site, run a farm or camel camp, do desert recovery, or want one serious light in the car that can hold a real 1,000 lumens for hours rather than minutes. The dual switches, the 25A high-drain cell and the swappable 21700 are all features you notice on the third hour, not the first minute.
Skip it if you are buying for maximum distance — the T29 (AED 449, 1,400 m) or, if budget allows, the P20 (AED 749, 1,454 m) are the throwers. Skip it, too, if it has to fit in a pocket: at 175 mm long with a 65 mm head and 306 g, this is a holster, bag or door-pocket light. For pocketable reach, the E10 2.0 does 715 m from 106 g.

All mode figures are Acebeam’s published ANSI numbers. The 267,806 candela works out, by the standard formula, to exactly 1,035 m — so the distance is not inflated; it is simply a Turbo figure.
Why 4,000 lumens throws less than 2,900
This is the part most product pages skip. Beam distance does not come from lumens; it comes from candela — how tightly the light is concentrated — and candela is decided by the size of the LED’s light-emitting surface and the depth of the reflector behind it. A small emitter in a deep reflector makes a narrow, intense beam. A big emitter makes more total light but cannot be focused as tightly. (Our lumens vs candela explainer covers the physics.)
The T29 uses Luminus’ small-die SFT-42R and a deep reflector: 2,900 lumens, but around 490,000 candela and 1,400 m. The P20 Mini uses the larger SFT-60-W: 4,000 lumens, but 267,806 candela and 1,035 m. The P20 Mini makes 38% more light and reaches 26% less far, because its light is spread over a hotspot roughly twice the area. Neither number is wrong. They describe two different tools: the T29 is a pencil, the P20 Mini is a wide-bore spotlight. Up to about 400 m the P20 Mini will show you more — a bigger patch of ground, more of the vehicle, more of the fence — while the T29 will show you a smaller patch, further away. The number that actually matters: 1,000 lumens for 2.5 hours
Turbo is 90 seconds. After that the P20 Mini settles to 1,000 lumens and holds it for about two and a half hours — and 1,000 sustained lumens is the real product. Candela scales roughly with output, so at 1,000 lumens expect the beam to be rated around 500 m, which is still further than most pocket lights manage on Turbo. High mode is the same story from a lower start: 2,000 lumens for ten minutes, then 1,000 for just over two hours. Med2 is simply 1,000 lumens from the off, for 2.6 hours.
Acebeam’s runtime chart also passes the honesty test we ran in our H30 vs H35 comparison: multiply each mode’s output by its runtime and the totals should agree. Ultra Low (15 × 150 h), Low (200 × 16 h), Med1, Med2, High and Turbo all land between roughly 2,250 and 3,200 lumen-hours from the same 6,400 mAh cell. That is a consistent chart, and the 6,400 mAh figure is the reason the “hours” column is so much longer than on a standard 5,000 mAh 21700 light. Switches, battery and the “duty” details
Three things separate the P20 Mini from a plain bright torch. First, the dual switch: the side button cycles modes, the tail button is a tactical switch for instant Turbo — the layout security and patrol users prefer because you can go from off to full power without thinking, then back to a working level. Second, the battery: a 6,400 mAh 21700 rated for 25 A discharge, with USB-C on the cell itself as well as on the light, and a tube that accepts a spare. For a night shift that means a charged spare in the pocket, not a cable. (Why this matters more than the lumen figure: our batteries & charging explainer.) Third, non-PWM dimming: the lower modes do not flicker on camera or to tired eyes, which sounds trivial until you have spent a shift under a light that does.
The catch, in plain English
1. It is not the thrower in the family. Covered above. If distance is the brief, the T29 out-throws it for less and the P20 out-throws both. Buy the P20 Mini for breadth and staying power, not for the last few hundred metres.
2. Turbo is 90 seconds. Better than most (the E10 2.0 manages 30), but 4,000 lumens is still a burst. In a 45°C UAE summer expect it to step down sooner; our summer heat guide explains why.
3. It is a big light. 175 mm and 306 g with a 65 mm head. Holster, bag, or door pocket. It will not disappear into trousers the way a Baton or an E10 2.0 does.
4. No Kelvin figure and no CRI. It is a cool white search LED; Acebeam does not publish the colour temperature and we will not guess it. Fine for spotting, not a colour-critical light (why that matters).

Read it as a spectrum. The L35 2.0 is the flood-duty light (brightest, shortest reach); the T29 is the pure thrower; the P20 is the big-budget searchlight that does both at a cost in weight and dirhams. The P20 Mini sits in the middle on purpose: more reach than the L35, more light and a bigger hotspot than the T29, 40% lighter and AED 260 cheaper than the P20. Living with it in the UAE
For security and patrol, the tail switch plus a sustained 1,000 lumens is the right combination: momentary Turbo to identify, then two hours of working light — more in our security guard flashlight guide. For desert recovery, the wide hotspot is an advantage at the distances that actually matter (finding the stuck vehicle 200 m off the track, lighting the recovery point), and the swappable 6,400 mAh cell covers a long night; see our 4×4 recovery lights guide. IP68 (what that means) handles dust storms and a wadi crossing; the hard-anodised body handles the tailgate. Two cautions: do not store it in a parked car in summer, and if you carry a spare 21700, carry it in a case — a loose high-drain cell in a pocket with keys is a fire risk, not a flashlight accessory.
What we’d change
A published colour temperature, so buyers know what they are getting. A step-down figure on the box rather than only in the manual, since the 1,000-lumen sustained number is the light’s best argument and Acebeam undersells it. And the “Mini” name sets expectations the 306 g body cannot meet — it is mini next to the P20, not next to anything in a pocket.
Should you buy it?
If you want a duty-grade searchlight that holds a real 1,000 lumens for hours, with a tactical tail switch, a swappable high-capacity cell and a hotspot wide enough to actually work by, the Acebeam P20 Mini is a strong buy at AED 489 — for security, farm and recovery use it is the most complete light we sell under AED 500.
