Acebeam T29 Review (UAE 2026): 1,400 Metres of Reach — and Why It Out-Throws the Pricier P20 Mini

The 30-second verdict

The Acebeam T29 is a long-range thrower that reaches 1,400 metres for AED 449 — and the headline number to remember is that distance, not the 2,900 lumens. Here is the part Acebeam won’t put on the box: the T29 out-throws Acebeam’s own P20 Mini, which is brighter (4,000 lumens) and costs more (AED 489) yet only reaches 1,035 metres. If your job is to identify something far away — a dune line, a farm boundary, a boat, an animal at the edge of the light — the T29 is the most reach-per-dirham torch we stock under AED 500. If you want a light for anything close, keep reading, because this is not that torch.

Who the T29 is for

Buy it if you need to see far and you have two situations in mind: searching (SAR volunteers, security patrol sweeping a perimeter, off-road recovery spotting) and hunting or open-desert glassing where the target is hundreds of metres out. The tactical tail switch fires Turbo the instant you press it — no scrolling through modes — and there’s an optional remote pressure switch so you can mount it and fire without changing grip. The 21700 battery and IP68 body mean it will still be working at 4 a.m. in dust and rain.

Who should skip it

Everyone who mainly lights things within arm’s reach. A 1,400-metre beam is a tight, concentrated column — wonderful at distance, frustrating up close, where it blows out and gives you almost no useful spill. If you want a pocket light for the car, the house, or walking the dog, a general-purpose torch will serve you far better. What Acebeam publishes

A note on candela: Acebeam doesn’t headline a peak-intensity figure for the T29 in its text listing, but the number isn’t a mystery. Beam distance and candela are locked together by one formula — distance = 2 × √candela — so a 1,400 m rating means about 490,000 cd. (You can check it on the sibling P20: Acebeam prints 528,529 cd for its 1,454 m throw, which is exactly (1454 ÷ 2)².) The catch (there are two)

1. 2,900 lumens is a burst, not a setting. A 42-watt draw from a single 21700 cell cannot run forever — physics and heat won’t allow it. Like every thrower in this class, the T29 fires its top output for a short window and then steps down to protect itself. Acebeam highlights the honest end of the curve (12 lumens for 163 hours) but does not print the full intermediate mode ladder or the exact Turbo step-down timing in its online listing — that lives in the printed manual. So buy the T29 for its sustainable mid-modes and its reach, not for a 2,900-lumen number you’ll hold for maybe a minute or two. 2. It’s a two-handed tool, not an EDC. The large-diameter reflector that buys you 1,400 metres also makes this a full-size torch built around a tail switch and a remote-switch port — duty and hunting kit, not something you clip in a pocket. Acebeam’s text listing also doesn’t publish the T29’s weight, length or beam colour temperature; the SFT-42R is a cool-white-leaning emitter, so expect a crisp, slightly blue-white beam rather than warm, high-CRI colour. If you want a light you carry every day, this isn’t it — and that’s fine, because it isn’t trying to be.

Using it in the UAE

Three things matter here. First, heat: our summers punish every high-output torch, and a thrower run on Turbo in 45°C will step down sooner than the same light in a European winter — another reason to live in the mid-modes. Second, dust and water: the IP68 rating is the real deal for desert sand and the odd downpour, but IP68 means protected immersion, not a diving light — if you want to take a torch under water, that’s a different category (our IP ratings guide explains where the line is). Third, the battery is a strength here: a standard 21700 with in-light USB-C charging means you can top it from a car or a power bank, and a spare cell keeps you running through a long night — no proprietary pack to hunt down.

What we’d change

Two things, both about transparency rather than hardware. Acebeam should print the full mode-and-runtime table on the product page instead of burying it in the manual — buyers deserve to see the sustained-output figures, not just the 2,900-lumen peak and the 163-hour floor. And it should publish the weight, length and colour temperature in text. The hardware itself — SFT-42R, 42 W buck driver, 21700 with USB-C, IP68, 10-year warranty — is exactly what a reach specialist at this price should be.

Should you buy it?

Yes, if you specifically need distance and you’re spending under AED 500: nothing else on our shelf reaches 1,400 metres for AED 449, and it does it in a tough, standard-battery, USB-C package with a proper tactical tail switch.
