Olight Perun 2 Mini Review (UAE 2026): The Headlamp You'll Forget You're Wearing

We’ve now reviewed every headlamp we stock: the Olight Perun 3, the Acebeam H35 and the Acebeam H30. All three are serious lights — and all three weigh 150 grams or more. The Olight Perun 2 Mini is the opposite idea: 54 grams including battery, about the weight of half a Snickers bar, with 1,100 lumens on tap and an IPX8 rating. At AED 229 it’s also the cheapest headlamp in our store.

It’s the headlamp for people who don’t like wearing headlamps. But the small size comes with real trade-offs, so let’s be honest about them.

30-Second Verdict

• What it is: a 54g, 64mm micro headlamp that swivels 180° and doubles as a clip-on EDC light. White + red LED, IPX8 waterproof.
• The honest number: 1,100 lumens is a turbo burst that lasts roughly 2 minutes before stepping down to 250 lumens. Buy it as a 250-lumen headlamp with an emergency boost — that’s the light you’ll actually live with.
• The other catch: it charges only via Olight’s MCC magnetic cable (included). No USB-C port on the light, and the cell is a customised 650mAh 16340 — not a swap-anywhere battery.
• Who should buy: runners, campers, anglers and anyone who wants hands-free light they can forget about. Who shouldn’t: all-night high-output workers — get the H30 instead.

Who It’s For (and Not For)

Buy the Perun 2 Mini if: you run or walk before sunrise to beat the UAE heat, you camp and want a lamp that disappears into a pocket, you fish at night and need something that shrugs off spray (IPX8 — see our IP ratings explainer), or you keep a just-in-case light in the glovebox. The 40-lumen red mode preserves night vision at the campsite and won’t attract every insect in the wadi.

Skip it if: you need sustained brightness for long shifts — tank inspections, overnight site work, search duty. The small cell physically can’t hold high output for hours. That job belongs to the Acebeam H30 (1,100 lumens sustained for ~3 hours) or the H35 with its swappable 18650s.

Real Runtimes, Mode by Mode

These are the manufacturer’s spec-sheet figures for the light we actually sell — not marketing rounding:

Read that table the way we do: Level 3 (60 lumens, 7 hours) is the overnight camp mode. 60 lumens sounds modest, but around a campsite or on a beach rig at 2am it’s plenty — and it survives the whole night. Level 2 at 250 lumens is your trail-pace mode for about an hour and a half. Turbo is for “what was that noise?” moments, not for cruising. Living With It in the UAE

Pre-dawn runs: at 54g you genuinely stop noticing it — there’s no bounce even at pace, which is the failure mode of every 150g+ headlamp on a run. 250 lumens lights a corniche path or Al Qudra track comfortably. In summer, when the only sane outdoor window is before Fajr, this is the piece of kit that makes it work (our summer heat guide explains why smaller lights also handle 45°C cabins better).

Camping and fishing: the 180° swivel means you can aim it at the grill, the tent pegs or the tackle box without craning your neck. Unclip it from the headband and the pocket clip turns it into a cap light or a chest light — it’s the same trick that earned it a spot in our fishing torch guide. IPX8 means salt spray and a dunk in the cooler are non-events; rinse it with fresh water after a Jumeirah night session and move on.

Around the house and car: the headlamp base and clip make it a decent inspection light for AC cabinets, under-sink work and engine bays. The washable headband (with a battery indicator built in) matters more than it sounds in a country where everything gets sweaty.

What We’d Change

Honesty section — every light has one:

• The turbo is a sprint, not a marathon. 1,100 lumens for ~2 minutes, then 250. If you bought it expecting a thousand lumens all evening, you bought the wrong light — physics and a 650mAh cell say no.
• Proprietary charging. The MCC magnetic cable is convenient (it snaps on blind, in the dark, with wet hands) but if you lose it there’s no USB-C fallback on the light itself. Keep the cable in your camp box.
• The battery is a customised 16340. It’s included and recharges in place, but this isn’t a “buy spares anywhere” cell like the H35’s 18650. Spare cells need to be the Olight one.
• Tint isn’t specified on the listing. Olight makes this model in cool white (5700–6700K) and a neutral white (4000–5000K) for Black/OD Green; our listing doesn’t split them out. If tint matters to you, ask us before ordering — we’d rather check the carton than guess.
• No strobe (it does have SOS/beacon). For a defensive strobe you’re looking at our tactical picks instead.

How It Compares (all in stock)

The pattern is obvious: every step up in sustained brightness costs you roughly 100 grams on your forehead. The Perun 2 Mini exists for the trips where you’d otherwise leave the big lamp at home.
