• IPX6 — shrugs off rain and heavy splashes, but not for dunking. Fine on a boat deck, risky over the side.
• IPX7 — survives 30 minutes under 1m of water.
• IPX8 / IP68 — tested for continuous submersion beyond 1m. This is what you want if the light could go in the water.

Honourable mention: brightest AA torch — Acebeam TAC 2AA (AED 169)

If you’d rather run on shop-bought AA batteries, the Acebeam TAC 2AA is a 1,600-lumen pocket thrower (181m) that also takes 2×AA in a pinch — handy when you’re far from a charger. One honest caveat for fishing: Acebeam doesn’t publish an IP water rating for the TAC 2AA on its listing, so we’d treat it as a shore/tackle-box torch, not something to dunk.
