The 30-second verdict
The Olight i1R 2 Pro (AED 95) is the smallest light we stock that you will actually still be carrying six months from now. It weighs 22 g, it is 51.3 mm long — shorter than a car key — and it charges over USB-C from the same cable as your phone. Twist the head, get 180 lumens. Twist it a little less, get 5 lumens. That is the whole light.
The catch: that 180-lumen figure runs for 23 minutes. Not 23 minutes then a dim step-down — 23 minutes, and that is the High mode’s rated runtime, full stop. The mode you will really live on is the 5-lumen Low, which runs 12 hours. Buy this light as a “find the keyhole, find the dropped phone, walk the last 20 metres to the car” tool, and it is superb. Buy it expecting a torch, and you will be disappointed by lunchtime.
Who it’s for — and who should skip it
Buy it if: you want a light that lives on your keyring permanently and never needs a battery bought for it; you already carry a USB-C cable; you want something you can drop in a puddle (it is IPX8) without a second thought.
Skip it if: you need more than a few minutes of real brightness — get the Olight Baton 4 (AED 210) instead; you want a light you can revive with a battery from any UAE supermarket at 2 a.m. — get the i3E EOS (AED 59, runs on AAA); or you want maximum punch from a keychain light — the Acebeam Keylite 500 (AED 89) puts out 500 lumens.

The two modes, honestly

There is no medium. There is no strobe and no SOS. If two modes sounds sparse, that is because it is — but it is also why there is nothing to learn and nothing to accidentally trigger in your pocket. And because the light only turns on when you deliberately twist the head, it cannot cook itself in your bag. In the field (UAE reality check)
180 lumens at 48 metres is not a beam that reaches across a wadi. It is a beam that covers the front of a car, the inside of a cupboard, or the four metres of pavement between you and your door when the building’s lights are out. That is honestly most of what a keychain light gets asked to do here.
The IPX8 rating is the quiet strength. Wash it under a tap, drop it in the pool, leave it clipped to a bag in a downpour — it is rated for full submersion, unlike the splash-only ratings on most keychain lights (the Keylite 500 is IP66 and the imini 2 is IPX6). Heat: it is a tiny aluminium body, so on High it gets warm quickly. In a UAE summer that is one more reason the 23-minute High figure is theoretical rather than a plan.
What we’d change
The battery is sealed in. 130 mAh of built-in Li-ion means that in a few years of daily charge cycles, when the cell tires, the light is finished. There is no cell to swap. That is the trade you make for 22 grams — but it is a real trade, and it is why the AAA-powered i3E EOS still has a place on this shelf.
A mid mode would fix the gap. Something around 40–50 lumens for an hour would be the sweet spot between “too dim to be useful outdoors” and “bright but gone in 23 minutes.”
Cool white only. No neutral or high-CRI option here — colours look flat under it. If accurate colour matters to you, that is what the Acebeam Pokelit AA is for.

Read that table honestly and the picture is clear. The Keylite 500 is the brightest and reaches furthest, but it cannot be submerged and its 500 lumens last 20 seconds. The i3E EOS is the cheapest and the only one you can bring back from the dead with a supermarket battery. The imini 2 is the one you can charge with no cable at all — its USB plug flips out of the body. Should you buy it?
Yes — if you understand what it is. At AED 95 the i1R 2 Pro is not competing with a torch; it is competing with the flashlight in your phone, which drains the battery you need for the taxi app. It wins that fight decisively: it is always on your keys, it is always charged (12 hours of usable low light), it survives being dropped in water, and it tops up in 100 minutes from a cable you already own.
