Acebeam K1 pocket light with a 365 nm UV emitter, green laser and white LED

A UV torch is a pocket light with a 365 nm ultraviolet emitter that makes scorpions, the security marks on AED notes, AC leak dye and old stains glow in the dark. We sell exactly two: the Acebeam K1 (AED 269) and the Olight ArkPro (AED 500, on sale at AED 450 until 8 October 2026). Both also carry a green laser pointer and a white light. Get the K1 for desert trips and a smaller budget; get the ArkPro if you'll use the white light every day.

The 30-second answer

  • Cheapest proper 365 nm UV: the Acebeam K1 at AED 269. IP68, 77 g, and it runs on a plain AA if the rechargeable cell goes flat.
  • Best everyday all-rounder: the Olight ArkPro. Flood and spot beams, about 520 lumens of sustained flood, a 2,000 mAh built-in battery and a flat body that sits flush in a pocket.
  • Stronger UV on paper: the ArkPro, rated at up to 1,200 mW against the K1's 1,000 mW. Same 365 nm wavelength.
  • Tougher outdoors: the K1, with IP68 and a 1.5 m drop rating. The ArkPro is IPX7.
  • Neither one disinfects anything, and neither is a counterfeit detector on its own. Details below.

What is a 365 nm UV torch, and why not a 395 nm "blacklight"?

A 365 nm UV torch gives off ultraviolet-A light just past the edge of what your eye can see, which is the wavelength that makes fluorescent materials glow hardest. Most cheap blacklight torches use 395 nm instead. That sits closer to visible violet, so the whole scene turns purple and the faint glow you're looking for gets washed out. The K1 and the ArkPro are both 365 nm, so a scorpion or a dye trail stands out against a dark background instead of blending into a purple haze.

One thing 365 nm isn't: germicidal. The UV that disinfects is UVC, roughly 254 to 280 nm, and neither light emits it. Don't buy either one expecting to sanitise a phone or a water bottle.

What does a UV torch actually do in the UAE?

Four jobs make one worth carrying here.

Checking for scorpions at a desert camp

Scorpions glow a bright blue-green under 365 nm UV, so a slow sweep around the tent, your shoes and the edge of the ground sheet picks them out from several metres away. Do it at dusk and again before you sleep, whether you're at Liwa, Sweihan, Al Qudra or in a Hatta wadi. The K1 has the edge for this job: IP68 keeps sand and dust out, and if the battery dies you can drop in an AA from any petrol station. For the rest of the camp, see our desert camping lights guide.

Looking at AED notes, IDs and documents

UAE dirham notes, like most modern currency, carry features that react to UV, and so do many ID cards and official documents. A 365 nm torch shows you those marks in a couple of seconds at a shop counter or during a private car sale. It shows the marks; it doesn't tell you what a genuine note should look like. Treat it as a quick check, not a verdict.

Tracing AC and car leaks

Technicians add fluorescent dye to AC and car systems so that refrigerant, coolant and oil leaks glow under UV. With air conditioning running for most of the year, that makes a UV torch a real tool for maintenance crews and hands-on car owners. Both lights handle it. The ArkPro's wide flood beam is nicer when you then need to work on the fault in ordinary light.

Inspecting a flat before you move in

Pet urine, old spills and some cleaning residues still glow under UV long after they've stopped being visible. Five minutes on the carpet and mattress of a rental flat or a holiday home tells you what the listing photos didn't. Close the curtains and switch the room lights off first; a UV torch is far less impressive in a bright room.

What a UV torch can't do

  • Sterilise. Both lights are UVA (365 nm). Disinfection needs UVC.
  • Prove a note is fake. It reveals UV features; you still need to know what the real ones look like.
  • Work well in daylight. Fluorescence is faint. You need a dark room or a dark night.
  • Replace a work light. The K1's white light settles at 110 lm on High; the ArkPro's at about 520 lm. Fine for pocket jobs, not for lighting a whole garage.

Buy the Acebeam K1 if you're mostly outdoors or on a budget

The Acebeam K1 is the better UV torch for desert trips, and at AED 269 it's the cheapest way into proper 365 nm UV that we sell. It's IP68 with a 1.5 m drop rating, weighs 77.4 g and runs on its own USB-C 14500 cell or on one AA, which you can buy at any hour anywhere in the Emirates. A rotary magnetic switch picks the source (white, UV or laser) and a tail switch turns it on and off.

The trade-off is the white light. The 1,000-lumen figure is a burst that steps down to 650 and then 110 lumens; the mode you'll live in is Medium, 200 lumens for 2 hours 40 minutes. It comes in black only, with a cool 6,500K white. Our full Acebeam K1 review covers the mode ladder in detail.

Olight ArkPro flat EDC light with flood, spot, 365 nm UV and green laser

Buy the Olight ArkPro if the white light matters as much as the UV

The Olight ArkPro is the better pick if you'll use it as your everyday torch and treat the UV and laser as extras. It has two white beams: a soft flood for a car interior or a cupboard, and a spot that reaches across a garden. The flood holds about 520 lumens once the roughly 4-minute 1,500-lumen burst ends, close to five times what the K1 sustains on High. The built-in battery is rated at 2,000 mAh, twice the K1's cell, and the 16 mm flat body lies flush in a trouser pocket at 115 g.

The trade-offs: IPX7 means it survives rain and a brief dunk, but it has no dust rating (that's the X), so wipe it down after a sandy trip. There's no AA fallback, and the box includes the magnetic charging cable but not a USB-C cable. It's AED 500 normally and AED 450 until 8 October 2026, which also clears our AED 300 free-delivery line. Our Olight ArkPro review has the full spec sheet.

Which one has the stronger UV?

On paper, the ArkPro. Olight rates its UV at up to 1,200 mW and Acebeam rates the K1's at 1,000 mW, so the ArkPro's figure is 20% higher. Both are 365 nm, so they make the same things glow; the ArkPro's should look a little brighter at the same distance. We haven't measured either with a meter, so read the gap as the manufacturers' numbers, not a lab result.

Using UV and a laser safely

  • Don't shine the UV into anyone's eyes, including your own. 365 nm looks dim because your eye barely sees it, which makes it easy to underestimate. Keep both lights away from children.
  • Both lights carry a Class 3R green laser. Point it at surfaces only: never at people, animals, vehicles or aircraft.
  • Water ratings differ. IP68 (K1) and IPX7 (ArkPro) mean different things; our IP ratings explainer breaks down both.

The bottom line

For scorpion checks, desert camping and a price under AED 300, get the Acebeam K1 at AED 269. For a flat everyday light that also happens to have strong UV and a laser, get the Olight ArkPro, AED 450 until 8 October 2026 (AED 500 after). Both are delivered across the UAE in 1 to 3 days, with cash on delivery available.
